Synopsis

Is it possible for a photograph to change the world? Acclaimed documentarian Errol Morris (fog of war) sets out to examine the context of the controversial Abu Ghraib photographs. These images, depicting abuse inflicted on prisoners by US army personnel in the notorious Iraqi prison, shocked the world and Morris’ investigation aims to ‘look outside the frame’, rooting out the policies behind the actions at Abu Ghraib. Featuring testimonies from five of the seven soldiers charged with abusing prisoners and making liberal use of the photographs and video footage, Morris rightfully labels SOP a ‘non-fiction horror movie’.
