An old man is found murdered in his basement flat. Inspector Erlendur and his investigative team have few leads to follow in the case, and the discovery of a photograph of a young girl’s grave gives them a vital clue. Their investigation leads them to believe that the elderly victim may not be all that innocent and as Inspector Erlendur reopens the case into the victim’s own alleged crimes, he uncovers secrets that are much more significant than the murder of one old man.
